Re-capping Fall Share-a-thon (and more!)

God is good. All the time. All the time. God is good!

We took a leap of faith and raised our goal to $35,000 for the next six months. We prayed. God answered!

We want to thank all of you who pre-pledged this Share-a-thon! You started us off with the highest EVER pre-pledge response — 68%!!!!

The week went well. For the first time in the last 3 years we did not need to pre-empt programming for the majority of the week. Friday we were holding our breath at 95% around Noon. We began pre-empting the afternoon programming and slowly began creeping toward the goal. We received a challenge at 3:15 pm to be completed by 4:15. You answered the challenge! At 4:15 pm we reached our goal and then some! We had promised to announce an additional blessing once we reached the goal. We came back on the air at 4:30 pm to announce what God has been doing the past few weeks.

At the 35th Anniversary Concert, a conversation was had with someone who asked how the station was doing and if we had any needs. Among other things, we explained that we were looking for a generator or generators for the station and/or the tower so that we could stay on the air in the event of power outages. Before the evening was over, the individual said they had a large generator (worth $10,000+) at home which had never been hooked up. He said it was the radio station’s if the specs worked out.

Pastor Sam and Nathan checked the possibilities for both sites. It was determined that the best place for the generator would be at the radio tower because of the type of generator it is. If the station should lose power, we could continue to at least broadcast a local signal with music and possibly broadcast live from the tower if necessary. Although our internet listeners would be left out, our local community would still be able to pick up the signal on a regular radio; this would be especially important in the event of any type of emergency.

We are working to get everyone scheduled so we can go pick up the diesel engine generator. (Someone has already called in to volunteer their truck, trailer, and time to assist in the pick up.) We will also need for it to be checked out to ensure it is in good working order before we hook it up at the tower. We hope to have everything in working order in the next month or so.

Over the last few months we have been working to install a new tracking system for reporting royalties for radio and internet streaming. This was a very important upgrade. Part of the “bells and whistles” of the system resulted in a new Listen Live page. We have listen live tabs indicated for the best listening experience for whatever device you choose to listen from. You will now also be able to see the name and artist of the current song being played! Plus, you will also be able to scroll down to see what songs have played in the last several hours. Here’s a sample of what that looks like:

You will also be able to vote up or vote down the songs that are playing or have played that are still in the lineup. (Note the “rate” arrows on the right side of the screenshot above.) This will let you get involved with the station. Let us know your favorite artists and songs. This will help us in music selection for the future.

There are still some kinks in the system in regard to the Artist Bio. We have no control over that information but we are making note when we find incorrect bios to let the system provider know to make those corrections.

We ask for your prayers as we assess other needs and make plans for the future. This year has been a whirlwind as we have celebrated WOAK’s 35th Anniversary. God has been so good to us. We have had the opportunity to meet so many of our listeners. We have made new friends. We don’t take any of you for granted. Thank you for your support!
